Bar (Einheit)
Der Stab ist eine Nicht-SI-Einheit des Drucks, die durch die IUPAC als genau gleich 100.000 Pa definiert ist. Es ist ungefähr gleich dem atmosphärischen Druck auf der Erde auf Meereshöhe, und seit 1982 hat die IUPAC empfohlen, dass der Standard für atmosphärischen Druck sollte Harmonisiert auf 100.000 Pa = 1 bar ≈ 750.0616827 Torr. Die gleiche Definition wird in der Kompressor- und der pneumatischen Werkzeugindustrie verwendet. Die Bar und die Millibar wurden von dem britischen Meteorologen William Napier Shaw im Jahre 1909 eingeführt, während er der Direktor des Meteorologischen Büros in London war. Einheiten aus der Bar sind die Megabar, Kilobar, Decibar, Zentibar und Millibar. Dies sind keine SI- oder CG-Einheiten, aber sie werden von der BIPM für die Verwendung mit dem SI akzeptiert. Die Bar ist in den Ländern der Europäischen Union gesetzlich anerkannt. Die Stabeinheit wird von einigen Entitäten als veraltet betrachtet.
