Mnemotechnik
Eine mnemotechnische oder mnemotechnische Vorrichtung ist jede Lerntechnik, die die Informationsretention unterstützt. Mnemonik zielt darauf ab, Informationen in eine Form zu übersetzen, die das Gehirn besser behalten kann als seine ursprüngliche Form. Auch der Prozeß des bloßen Lernens dieser Umwandlung könnte schon bei der Übertragung von Informationen auf Langzeitgedächtnis helfen. Häufig angetroffene Mnemoniken werden oft für Listen und in auditorischer Form verwendet, wie zB kurze Gedichte, Akronyme oder unvergessliche Phrasen, aber auch Mnemonik kann für andere Arten von Informationen und in visuellen oder kinästhetischen Formen verwendet werden. Ihr Gebrauch beruht auf der Beobachtung, dass sich der menschliche Geist leichter an räumliche, persönliche, überraschende, physische, sexuelle, humorvolle oder sonst "verwandte" Informationen erinnert, anstatt abstraktere oder unpersönliche Informationsformen. Das Wort mnemonic ist aus dem altgriechischen Wort μνημονικός abgeleitet, was bedeutet "des Gedächtnisses, oder in Bezug auf das Gedächtnis" und bezieht sich auf Mnemosyne, der Name der Göttin der Erinnerung in der griechischen Mythologie. Beide Wörter werden aus μνήμη, "Erinnerung, Gedächtnis" abgeleitet. Mnemonik in der Antike wurden am häufigsten im Zusammenhang mit dem, was heute als die Kunst der Erinnerung bekannt ist.
