Monotypisierung
Monotypisierung ist eine Art von Druckgrafik, die durch Zeichnen oder Lackieren auf einer glatten, nicht absorbierenden Oberfläche hergestellt wird. Die Oberfläche oder Matrix war historisch eine Kupfer-Ätzplatte, aber in zeitgenössischer Arbeit kann sie von Zink oder Glas zu Acrylglas variieren. Das Bild wird dann auf ein Blatt Papier übertragen, indem man die beiden zusammendrückt, üblicherweise mit einer Druckmaschine. Monotypen können auch durch Einfärben einer ganzen Oberfläche und dann unter Verwendung von Bürsten oder Lumpen erzeugt werden, Entfernen von Tinte, um ein subtraktives Bild zu erzeugen, z.B. Schaffung von Lichtern aus einem Feld von undurchsichtiger Farbe. Die verwendeten Tinten können ölbasiert oder wasserbasiert sein. Bei Tinten auf Ölbasis kann das Papier trocken sein, wobei in diesem Fall das Bild mehr Kontrast hat oder das Papier feucht sein kann. In diesem Fall hat das Bild einen 10 Prozent größeren Bereich von Tönen. Monotypisierung produziert einen einzigartigen Druck oder Monotyp; Der Großteil der Tinte wird bei der Erstpressen entfernt. Obwohl nachfolgende Nachdrucke manchmal möglich sind, unterscheiden sie sich stark vom ersten Druck und werden im Allgemeinen als minderwertig angesehen. Diese Drucke aus der Originalplatte werden als "Ghost Prints" bezeichnet. Ein Druck, der durch Drücken eines neuen Drucks auf eine andere Oberfläche gemacht wird, wodurch der Druck effektiv in eine Platte gebracht wird, wird als "verwandt" bezeichnet.
