Der Morepork, auch genannt Tasmanian Spotted Eule, ist eine kleine braune Eule in ganz Neuseeland, Tasmanien, über die meisten Festland Australien und in Timor, Süd-Neuguinea und nahe gelegenen Inseln gefunden. Dieser Vogel ist die kleinste Eule in Australien und ist die am weitesten verbreitete und gemeinsame Eule des Kontinents. Der Vogel hat fast 20 alternative häufige Namen, von denen die meisten - einschließlich Mopoke, südlichen Boobook, Ruru und Boobook - viele dieser Namen sind onomatopoeic, wie sie emulieren die Vogel unterscheidenden zwei-Aufruf.
