Methicillin-resistenter Staphylococcus aureus
Methicillin-resistenter Staphylococcus aureus ist ein Bakterium, das für mehrere schwer zu behandelnde Infektionen beim Menschen verantwortlich ist. Es heißt auch Oxacillin-resistenter Staphylococcus aureus. MRSA ist jede Belastung von Staphylococcus aureus, die durch den Prozess der natürlichen Selektion, Resistenz gegen Beta-Lactam-Antibiotika, die die Penicilline und die Cephalosporine gehören entwickelt hat. Stämme, die diesen Antibiotika nicht widerstehen können, werden als Methicillin-empfindlicher Staphylococcus aureus oder MSSA klassifiziert. Die Evolution eines solchen Widerstandes führt nicht dazu, dass der Organismus mehr intrinsisch virulent ist als Stämme von Staphylococcus aureus, die keine antibiotische Resistenz haben, aber Resistenz macht MRSA-Infektion schwieriger, mit Standardtypen von Antibiotika zu behandeln und damit gefährlicher zu sein. MRSA ist besonders krank in Krankenhäusern, Gefängnissen und Pflegeheimen, wo Patienten mit offenen Wunden, invasiven Geräten und geschwächten Immunsystems ein größeres Infektionsrisiko haben als die Öffentlichkeit.
