Mehrparteiensystem
Ein Mehrparteien-System ist ein System, in dem mehrere politische Parteien die Möglichkeit haben, die Regierungsämter, getrennt oder in Koalition zu kontrollieren. Ein Beispiel für eine solche Koalition ist die zwischen der Christlich-Demokratischen Union Deutschlands und der Sozialdemokratischen Partei, die nach den Bundestagswahlen 2013 gegründet wurde. Die effektive Anzahl von Parteien in einem Mehrparteien-System ist in der Regel größer als zwei, aber weniger als zehn. In der überwiegenden Mehrheit der Mehrparteien-Systeme haben zahlreiche große und kleinere politische Parteien eine ernste Chance, ein Amt zu bekommen, und weil sie alle konkurrieren, kann eine Mehrheit die Gesetzgebung nicht kontrollieren und die Schaffung einer Koalition zwingen. In einigen Ländern hat sich jede Regierung seit ihrer Unabhängigkeit durch eine Koalition gebildet. Mehrparteien-Systeme neigen dazu, häufiger in parlamentarischen Systemen als Präsidial-Systeme, und weit häufiger in Ländern, die proportionale Vertretung im Vergleich zu Ländern, die erste Vergangenheit der Post Wahlen verwenden.
