Necessitarismus ist ein metaphysisches Prinzip, das alle bloße Möglichkeit leugnet; Es gibt genau einen Weg für die Welt zu sein. Das Jahrhundertwörterbuch definierte es anders im Jahre 1889-91, im wesentlichen als Glaube, daß der Wille nicht frei ist, sondern stattdessen äußeren vorangegangenen Ursachen oder natürlichen Gesetzen von Ursache und Wirkung unterworfen ist.
