Nekrotisierende Fasciitis oder NF, die gemeinhin als fleischfressende Krankheit oder fleischfressendes Bakterien-Syndrom bekannt ist, ist eine seltene Infektion der tieferen Schichten von Haut und subkutanen Geweben, die sich leicht über die Faszien-Ebene ausbreiten Innerhalb des subkutanen Gewebes Das konsequenteste Merkmal der Nekrotisierenden Fasciitis wurde erstmals 1952 als Nekrose des subkutanen Gewebes und der Faszie mit dem relativen Verschonen des zugrunde liegenden Muskels beschrieben. Nekrotisierende Fasciitis entwickelt sich rasch, mit größerem Risiko der Entwicklung in der immungeschwächten aufgrund von Bedingungen wie Diabetes oder Krebs. Es ist eine schwere Erkrankung des plötzlichen Beginns und wird normalerweise sofort mit chirurgischem Debridement und hohen Dosen von intravenösen Antibiotika behandelt, wobei die Verzögerung der chirurgischen Behandlung mit einer höheren Mortalität verbunden ist. Viele Arten von Bakterien können nekrotisierende Fasziitis verursachen (z. B. Streptokokken der Gruppe A (Streptococcus pyogenes), Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium perfringens, Bacteroides fragilis, Aeromonas hydrophila).
