Pfirsich
Der Pfirsich ist ein Laubbaum, gebürtig nach Nordwestchina, in der Region zwischen dem Tarim-Becken und den nördlichen Hängen des Kunlun-Shan-Gebirges, wo es zuerst domestiziert und gepflegt wurde. Es trägt eine essbare saftige Frucht, die auch Pfirsich genannt wird. Der Artenname persica bezieht sich auf seine weit verbreitete Kultivierung in Persien, woher es nach Europa verpflanzt wurde. Es gehört zur Gattung Prunus, die die Kirsche und Pflaume enthält, in der Familie Rosaceae. Pfirsiche und Nektarinen sind die gleichen Arten, obwohl sie kommerziell als verschiedene Früchte angesehen werden. Im Gegensatz zu Pfirsich, dessen Früchte den charakteristischen Flaum auf der Haut präsentieren, zeichnen sich Nektarinen durch das Fehlen von Fruchthauttrichomen aus; Genetische Studien deuten darauf hin, dass Nektarinen aufgrund eines rezessiven Allels produziert werden, während Pfirsiche aus einem dominanten Allel für Fuzzy-Haut hergestellt werden. China ist der weltweit größte Produzent von Pfirsichen.
