Neuplatonismus
Neoplatonismus ist ein moderner Begriff, der verwendet wird, um eine Tradition der Philosophie zu bezeichnen, die im 3. Jahrhundert n.Chr. Entstand und bis kurz nach dem Abschluss der Platonischen Akademie in Athen im Jahre 529 von Justinian I. beharrte. Neuplatonisten wurden sowohl von Platon als auch von Platon stark beeinflusst Tradition, die in den sechs Jahrhunderten gedeiht, die den ersten der Neuplatonisten von Platon trennten. Gemeinsam stellten die Neuplatonisten eine kontinuierliche Tradition der Philosophen dar, die mit Plotinus begann. Eines der charakteristischen Merkmale des Plotinus-Systems, das auch von nachfolgenden Neuplatonisten aufgenommen wurde, ist die Lehre von "dem Einen" jenseits des Seins. Für Plotin ist das erste Prinzip der Wirklichkeit ein ganz einfacher, unaussprechlicher, unerkennbarer Lebensunterhalt, der sowohl die schöpferische Quelle als auch das teleologische Ende aller existierenden Dinge ist. Obwohl, richtig gesprochen, gibt es keinen Namen für das erste Prinzip, die adäquaten Namen sind "der Eine" oder "das Gute". Das Eine ist so einfach, dass es nicht einmal gesagt werden kann, zu existieren oder ein Wesen zu sein.
