Antipsychotisch

Beide Generationen von Medikamenten neigen dazu, Rezeptoren in den Gehirn Dopamin-Wege zu blockieren, aber Atypicals neigen dazu, auf Serotonin-Rezeptoren auch zu handeln. Bemerkenswerte und relativ häufige Nebenwirkungen von Antipsychotika sind extrapyramidale Symptome und Hyperprolaktinämie vor allem in typischen und Gewichtszunahme und metabolischen Anomalien vor allem in Atypicals.
