Das nördliche Kap ist die größte und dünn besiedelte Provinz Südafrikas. Es wurde 1994 gegründet, als die Kap-Provinz aufgeteilt wurde. Seine Hauptstadt ist Kimberley. Es umfasst den Kalahari Gemsbok Nationalpark, Teil des Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, ein internationaler Park mit Botswana geteilt. Dazu gehören auch die Augrabies Falls und die Diamantenbergbaugebiete in Kimberley und Alexander Bay. Die Namaqualand Region im Westen ist berühmt für seine Namaqualand Gänseblümchen. Die südlichen Städte De Aar und Colesberg, in der Großen Karoo, sind Hauptverkehrsknoten zwischen Johannesburg, Kapstadt und Port Elizabeth. Im Nordosten ist Kuruman als Missionsstation und auch für sein "Auge" bekannt. Der Orangener Fluss fließt durch die Provinz und bildet die Grenzen mit dem Freistaat im Südosten und mit Namibia im Nordwesten. Der Fluss wird auch verwendet, um die vielen Weinberge in der trockenen Region in der Nähe von Upington zu bewässern. Muttersprachler von Afrikaans umfassen einen höheren Prozentsatz der Bevölkerung im Nordkap als in jeder anderen Provinz. Die vier offiziellen Sprachen des Nordkaps sind Afrikaans, Tswana, Xhosa und Englisch.
