Oman
Oman, offiziell das Sultanat von Oman genannt, ist ein arabischer Staat im Südwesten Asiens an der Südostküste der Arabischen Halbinsel. Es hat eine strategisch wichtige Position an der Mündung des Persischen Golfs. Es grenzt an die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate im Nordwesten, Saudi-Arabien im Westen und Jemen im Südwesten und teilt auch die Grenzen mit Iran und Pakistan. Die Küste wird durch das Arabische Meer im Südosten und den Golf von Oman im Nordosten gebildet. Die Madha und Musandam Exklaven sind von den VAE an ihren Landgrenzen umgeben, mit der Straße von Hormuz und dem Golf von Oman, die Musandams Küstengrenzen bilden. Ab dem 17. Jahrhundert hatte Oman ein eigenes Reich und wettete mit Portugal und Großbritannien für den Einfluss im Persischen Golf und im Indischen Ozean. Auf dem Höhepunkt des 19. Jahrhunderts erstreckte sich der omanische Einfluss oder die Kontrolle über die Straße von Hormuz auf den Iran und das heutige Pakistan und so weit südlich wie Sansibar. Als seine Macht im 20. Jahrhundert abnahm, kam das Sultanat unter starkem Einfluss vom Vereinigten Königreich, obwohl Oman niemals offiziell Teil des britischen Empire oder eines britischen Protektorats war. Oman's offizielle Religion ist Ibadi Islam.
