Die Oort-Wolke oder Öpik-Oort-Wolke, benannt nach dem niederländischen Astronomen Jan Oort, ist eine sphärische Wolke von überwiegend eisigen Planetesentalen, die die Sonne mit bis zu 50.000 AU umgeben. Dies stellt die Wolke ein Viertel der Entfernung zu Proxima Centauri, dem nächsten Stern zur Sonne. Der Kuiper-Gürtel und die gestreute Scheibe, die beiden anderen Reservoirs von trans-neptunischen Objekten sind weniger als ein Tausendstel der Distanz. Die äußere Grenze der Oort-Wolke definiert die kosmographische Grenze des Sonnensystems und die Region der Gravitationsdominanz der Sonne. Die Oort-Wolke soll zwei Regionen umfassen: eine sphärische äußere Oort-Wolke und eine scheibenförmige innere Oort-Wolke oder Hills-Wolke. Gegenstände in der Oort-Wolke bestehen größtenteils aus Eis, wie Wasser, Ammoniak und Methan. Die Astronomen vermuten, dass die Materie, die die Oort-Wolke komponiert, sich der Sonne näherte und durch die Gravitationseffekte der riesigen Planeten in der Evolution des Sonnensystems weit in den Weltraum verstreut war.
