Ovule bedeutet "kleines Ei". In Samenpflanzen ist die Ovule die Struktur, die die weiblichen Fortpflanzungszellen hervorbringt und enthält. Es besteht aus drei Teilen: Das Integument bildet seine äußere Schicht, den Nucellus und weiblichen Gametophyten in seiner Mitte. Die weibliche Gametophyte, die speziell als "Megagametophyt" bezeichnet wird, heißt auch Embryosack in Angiospermen. Der Megagametophyt produziert eine Eizelle zum Zweck der Befruchtung. Nach der Befruchtung entwickelt sich die Eizelle zu einem Samen.
