Palliative Pflege ist ein Bereich der Gesundheitsversorgung, die auf die Linderung und Verhütung der Leiden von Patienten konzentriert. Dieser multidisziplinäre Ansatz ermöglicht es dem Palliativpflege-Team, physische, emotionale, spirituelle und soziale Belange anzusprechen, die mit fortgeschrittener Krankheit auftreten. Medikamente und Behandlungen sollen eine palliative Wirkung haben, wenn sie Symptome lindern, ohne eine heilende Wirkung auf die zugrunde liegende Krankheit oder Ursache zu haben. Dies kann die Behandlung von Übelkeit im Zusammenhang mit Chemotherapie oder etwas so einfach wie Morphium zur Behandlung der Schmerzen von gebrochenen Bein oder Ibuprofen zu behandeln Schmerzen im Zusammenhang mit einer Influenza-Infektion.
