Panama
Panama, offiziell die Republik Panama, ist das südlichste Land Zentralamerikas und ganz Nordamerika. Mit der Unterstützung der Vereinigten Staaten trat Panama 1903 von Kolumbien ab, so dass der Panamakanal von 1904 bis 1914 von dem US-Armeekorps der Ingenieure gebaut werden konnte. 1977 wurde eine Vereinbarung zur vollständigen Übertragung des Kanals von der Vereinigte Staaten nach Panama bis zum Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts. Die Einnahmen aus der Kanalmaut stellen heute einen bedeutenden Teil des Panama-BIP dar.
