Medizinisierung

Die Medizinisierung ist der Prozess, durch den menschliche Zustände und Probleme definiert und als medizinische Bedingungen behandelt werden und damit zum Thema medizinische Studie, Diagnose, Prävention oder Behandlung werden. Die Medizinisierung kann durch neue Beweise oder Hypothesen über Bedingungen getrieben werden; Indem sie soziale Einstellungen oder ökonomische Erwägungen ändern; Oder durch die Entwicklung neuer Medikamente oder Behandlungen. Die Medizinisierung wird aus einer soziologischen Perspektive in Bezug auf die Rolle und die Macht von Fachleuten, Patienten und Unternehmen untersucht, und auch für ihre Implikationen für gewöhnliche Menschen, deren Selbstidentität und Lebensentscheidungen von den vorherrschenden Konzepten von Gesundheit und Krankheit abhängen können. Sobald eine Bedingung als medizinisch eingestuft wird, neigt ein medizinisches Modell der Behinderung dazu, anstelle eines sozialen Modells verwendet zu werden. Die Medizinisierung kann auch als "pathologization" oder "disease mongering" bezeichnet werden.
