Pentan
Pentan ist eine organische Verbindung mit der Formel C5H12 - dh ein Alkan mit fünf Kohlenstoffatomen. Der Begriff kann sich auf einen von drei strukturellen Isomeren oder auf eine Mischung von ihnen beziehen: In der IUPAC-Nomenklatur bedeutet jedoch Pentan ausschließlich das n-Pentanisomer; Die anderen beiden heißen isopentan und neopentane. Cyclopentan ist kein Isomer von Pentan. Pentane sind Bestandteile einiger Brennstoffe und werden als Speziallösungsmittel im Labor eingesetzt. Ihre Eigenschaften sind denen von Butanen und Hexanen sehr ähnlich.
