Pentode
Ein Pentodus ist ein elektronisches Gerät mit fünf aktiven Elektroden. Der Begriff gilt am häufigsten für eine dreifach verstärkende Vakuumröhre, die 1926 vom Holländer Bernhard DH Tellegen erfunden wurde. Der Pentod besteht aus einer evakuierten Glashülle mit fünf Elektroden in dieser Reihenfolge: einer Kathode, die durch einen Faden erhitzt wird, eine Kontrolle Raster, ein Raster, ein Suppressor Raster und eine Platte. Der Pentod wurde aus dem Tetrodenrohr durch Zugabe eines dritten Gitters, des Suppressor-Gitters, entwickelt. Dies führte dazu, dass sekundäre Emissionselektronen, die von der Platte emittiert wurden, das Siebgitter erreichen, was Instabilität und parasitäre Oszillationen in der Tetrode verursachte. Der Pentodus ist eng mit der Strahl-Tetrode verwandt. Pentodes wurden in industriellen und elektronischen Verbrauchsgeräten wie Radios und Fernsehgeräten bis in die 1960er Jahre weit verbreitet, als sie durch Transistoren ersetzt wurden. Ihre Hauptanwendung ist jetzt in Hochleistungs-Industrieanwendungen wie Funksendern.
