Die Peptisierung ist der Prozess, der für die Bildung einer stabilen Dispersion von kolloidalen Partikeln in Dispersionsmedium verantwortlich ist. Mit anderen Worten kann es als ein Verfahren zur Umwandlung eines Niederschlags in kolloidales Sol durch Schütteln mit Dispersionsmedium in Gegenwart einer kleinen Menge an Elektrolyt definiert werden. Der in diesem Verfahren verwendete Elektrolyt wird als Peptisierungsmittel bezeichnet. Dies ist besonders wichtig in der Kolloidchemie oder für Fällungsreaktionen in einer wässrigen Lösung. Wenn kolloidale Teilchen das gleiche Vorzeichen der elektrischen Ladung tragen, wehren sie sich gegenseitig ab und können nicht zusammen aggregieren. Frisch gefälltes Aluminium oder Eisenhydroxid ist äußerst schwierig zu filtern, da die sehr feinen kolloidalen Partikel direkt einen Papierfilter durchlaufen. Um die Filtration zu erleichtern, muß die kolloidale Suspension zuerst durch Zugabe einer konzentrierten Salzlösung zum System ausgeflockt werden. Mehrwertige Kationen sind effizientere Flockungsmittel als monovalente Kationen: AlCl \u0026 sub3; \u0026 gt; CaCl \u0026 sub2; \u0026 gt; NaCl Die an der Oberfläche der Partikel vorhandenen elektrischen Ladungen werden so "neutralisiert" und verschwinden.

Peptization is the process responsible for the formation of stable dispersion of colloidal particles in dispersion medium. In other words it may be defined as a process of converting a precipitate into colloidal sol by shaking it with dispersion medium in the presence of small amount of electrolyte. The electrolyte used in this process is called as peptizing agent. This is particularly important in colloid chemistry or for precipitation reactions in an aqueous solution. When colloidal particles bear a same sign electric charge, they mutually repel each other and cannot aggregate together. Freshly precipitated aluminium or iron hydroxide is extremely difficult to filter because the very fine colloidal particles directly pass through a paper filter. To facilitate the filtration, the colloidal suspension must be first flocculated by adding a concentrated solution of salt to the system. Multivalent cations are more efficient flocculants than monovalent cations: AlCl3 > CaCl2 > NaCl. The electrical charges present at the surface of the particles are so "neutralised" and disappear.
