Perikles
Perikles war wohl der prominenteste und einflussreichste griechische Staatsmann, Redner und General von Athen während des Goldenen Zeitalters - speziell die Zeit zwischen den persischen und peloponnesischen Kriegen. Er war durch seine Mutter von der mächtigen und historisch einflussreichen Familie Alcmaeonid herabgestiegen. Perikles hatte einen so tiefen Einfluß auf die athenische Gesellschaft, dass Thukydides, ein zeitgenössischer Historiker, ihn als "den ersten Bürger von Athen" bejubelte. Perikles verwandelte die Delian-Liga in ein Athenerreich und führte seine Landsleute während der ersten zwei Jahre des Peloponnesischen Krieges. Die Periode, in der er Athen führte, etwa 461 bis 429 v.Chr., Wird manchmal auch als "Age of Pericles" bezeichnet, obwohl die so genannte Periode schon in den Perserkriegen oder schon im nächsten Jahrhundert einverstanden ist.
