Stattdessen ist es eine Philosophie oder Weltanschauung, die den Begriff des Fortschritts direkt herausfordert und was als glaubensbasierte Ansprüche des Optimismus betrachtet werden kann. Philosophische Pessimisten sind oft existenzielle Nihilisten, die glauben, dass das Leben keine intrinsische Bedeutung oder Wert hat. Ihre Reaktionen auf diese Situation sind jedoch sehr vielfältig und sind oft lebensbejahend.
