Kurz nach der Begegnung riefen die örtlichen Richter die Militärbehörden an, die Jagd und mehrere andere auf die Verhütung mit ihm zu verhaften und die Menge zu zerstreuen. Kavallerie in die Menge mit Säbel gezogen, und in der anschließenden Verwirrung wurden 15 Menschen getötet und 400-700 wurden verletzt.
