Einzelne Mineralkörner aus einer Gesteinsmuster können auch durch Röntgenbeugung analysiert werden, wenn optische Mittel unzureichend sind. Die Analyse von mikroskopischen Fluideinschlüssen in Mineralkörnern mit einer Heizstufe auf einem petrographischen Mikroskop liefert Hinweise auf die Temperatur- und Druckbedingungen, die während der Mineralbildung auftreten.
