Piräus ist eine Hafenstadt in der Region Attika, Griechenland. Piräus befindet sich im Stadtteil Athen, 12 Kilometer südwestlich von der Innenstadt und liegt an der Ostküste des Saronischen Golfs. Piräus hat eine lange Geschichte, die aus dem antiken Griechenland stammt. Die Stadt wurde im frühen 5. Jahrhundert v. Chr. Weitgehend entwickelt, als sie als Hafenstadt des klassischen Athens ausgezeichnet wurde und in einen Prototyphafen verwandelt wurde, der den gesamten Import- und Transithandel von Athen konzentrierte. Infolgedessen wurde es zum Haupthafen des antiken Griechenlands, ging aber nach dem 4. Jh. N.Chr. Allmählich zurück und wuchs im 19. Jahrhundert, besonders nach der Erklärung Athens als Hauptstadt Griechenlands.
