Polyzytämie
Polyzythämie ist ein Krankheitszustand, in dem der Anteil des Blutvolumens, der von roten Blutzellen besetzt ist, zunimmt. Blutvolumenanteile können als Hämatokrit-Niveau gemessen werden. Es kann auf eine Erhöhung der Anzahl der roten Blutkörperchen oder auf eine Abnahme des Plasmas zurückzuführen sein. Polyzythämie wird manchmal als Erythrozytose bezeichnet, aber die Begriffe sind nicht synonym, weil Polyzythämie sich auf eine Zunahme der roten Blutkörperchen bezieht, während Erythrozytose nur auf eine dokumentierte Zunahme der roten Zellmasse verweist. Die Notfallbehandlung von Polyzythämie erfolgt durch Vereisung, die Entfernung von Blut aus der Zirkulation. Abhängig von der zugrunde liegenden Ursache kann die Venesektion auch regelmäßig verwendet werden, um die Anzahl der roten Blutkörperchen zu reduzieren. Zytostatika werden manchmal verwendet, wenn die Venesektion unwirksam oder kontraindiziert ist.
