Pre-Echo ist ein digitales Audio-Kompressions-Artefakt, bei dem ein Ton gehört wird, bevor es auftritt. Es ist am deutlichsten in impulsiven Klängen aus Schlaginstrumenten wie Kastagnetten oder Becken. Es tritt in transformbasierten Audiokompressionsalgorithmen auf, die typischerweise auf der modifizierten diskreten Cosinustransformation wie MP3, MPEG-4 AAC und Vorbis basieren und aufgrund von Quantisierungsrauschen über das gesamte Transformationsfenster des Codecs verteilt sind.
