Pteropoda
Pteropoda ist ein Begriff, der auf das, was jetzt als zwei getrennte taxonomische Gruppen von spezialisierten frei-schwimmenden pelagischen Seeschnecken und Seeschnecken, marine opisthobranch Gastropoden betrachtet wird. Das Wort "Pteropoda" hat nicht mehr einen wissenschaftlich präzisen Gebrauch, aber der Volksname "pteropods" wird immer noch als Bequemlichkeit benutzt. Das Wort wird sowohl auf die See-Schmetterlinge in der Clade Thecosomata und auch auf die See-Engel in der Clade Gymnosomata angewendet. Die Thecosomata haben eine Schale, während die Gymnosomata nicht. Die beiden Clades sind in Wirklichkeit nicht ganz eng verwandt, trotz einer oberflächlichen Ähnlichkeit, da sie sowohl pelagisch, klein als auch transparent sind, und beide Gruppen schwimmen mit flügelartigen Klappen, die aus ihren Körpern hervorstehen.
