Polyvinylchlorid
Poly, gemeinhin abgekürztes PVC, ist das drittgrößte Polymer nach Polyethylen und Polypropylen. PVC kommt in zwei Grundformen: starr und flexibel. Die starre Form von PVC wird in der Konstruktion für Rohr verwendet, und in Profilanwendungen wie Türen und Fenstern. Es wird auch für Flaschen und andere Non-Food-Verpackungen und Karten verwendet. Es kann weicher und flexibler durch die Zugabe von Weichmachern, die am häufigsten verwendeten Phthalate. In dieser Form wird es auch in der Sanitär-, Elektro-Kabel-Isolierung, Kunstleder, Beschilderung, aufblasbare Produkte und viele Anwendungen, wo es ersetzt Gummi verwendet. Pure Poly ist ein weißer, spröder Feststoff. Es ist in Alkohol unlöslich, aber leicht löslich in Tetrahydrofuran.
