Pyroxen
Die Pyroxene sind eine Gruppe von wichtigen felsbildenden Inosilikatmineralien, die in vielen magmatischen und metamorphen Gesteinen gefunden werden. Sie teilen sich eine gemeinsame Struktur, die aus einzelnen Ketten von Siliciumdioxid-Tetraedern besteht und sie in den monoklinen und orthorhombischen Systemen kristallisieren. Pyroxene haben die allgemeine Formel XY (Si, Al) 2O6 (wobei X für Calcium, Natrium, Eisen + 2 und Magnesium und seltener Zink, Mangan und Lithium steht und Y für Ionen kleinerer Größe wie Chrom, Aluminium, Eisen + 3 steht , Magnesium, Mangan, Scandium, Titan, Vanadium und sogar Eisen + 2). Obwohl Aluminium für Silicium in Silikaten wie Feldspatern und Amphibolen weitgehend substituiert ist, tritt die Substitution nur in begrenztem Maße in den meisten Pyroxenen auf. Der Name pyroxene kommt aus den griechischen Worten für Feuer (πυρ) und Fremden (ξένος). Pyroxene wurden auf diese Weise wegen ihrer Anwesenheit in vulkanischen Lavas genannt, wo sie manchmal als Kristalle in vulkanischem Glas eingebettet sind; Es wurde angenommen, dass sie Verunreinigungen im Glas waren, daher der Name "Feuer fremd". Allerdings sind sie einfach früh-bildende Mineralien, die kristallisierten, bevor die Lava ausbrach.
