In der Physik und in der Technik ist der Qualitätsfaktor oder der Q-Faktor ein dimensionsloser Parameter, der beschreibt, wie ein Dämpfer ein Oszillator oder Resonator die Bandbreite eines Resonators relativ zu seiner Mittenfrequenz charakterisiert oder äquivalent darstellt. Höheres Q zeigt eine niedrigere Energieverlustrate relativ zu der gespeicherten Energie des Resonators an; Die Oszillationen sterben langsamer aus. Ein Pendel, das an einem hochwertigen Lager hängt, das in der Luft oszilliert, hat ein hohes Q, während ein in Öl eingetauchtes Pendel einen niedrigen hat. Resonatoren mit hohen Qualitätsfaktoren haben eine geringe Dämpfung, so dass sie länger klingeln.
