Eine Minderheit ist eine soziologische Kategorie innerhalb eines demographischen. Anders als eine relationale "soziale Gruppe", wie der Begriff angeben würde, bezieht sich der Begriff auf eine Kategorie, die durch die soziale Mehrheit differenziert und definiert wird, dh diejenigen, die die Mehrheit der Positionen der sozialen Macht in einer Gesellschaft halten. Die Verwendung des Begriffs wird auf verschiedene Situationen und Zivilisationen innerhalb der Geschichte angewendet, trotz seiner populären Missverknüpfung mit einer numerischen, statistischen Minderheit. In den Sozialwissenschaften wird der Begriff "Minderheit" verwendet, um sich auf Kategorien von Personen zu beziehen, die nur wenige soziale Seelen halten. Der Begriff "Minderheitengruppe" tritt häufig neben einem Diskurs von Bürgerrechten und kollektiven Rechten auf, die im 20. Jahrhundert an Bedeutung gewannen. Mitglieder von Minderheitengruppen sind anfällig für unterschiedliche Behandlungen in den Ländern und Gesellschaften, in denen sie leben. Diese Diskriminierung kann direkt auf der von einer Person wahrgenommenen Mitgliedschaft einer Minderheitengruppe beruhen, ohne Rücksicht auf die persönliche Leistung dieses Individuums.
