Rav
Rav ist das hebräische Wort für Rabbiner. Für eine nuanciertere Diskussion siehe Semicha. Der Begriff wird auch häufig von orthodoxen Juden benutzt, um sich auf den eigenen Rabbiner zu beziehen. Im Talmud steht der Titel Rav in der Regel den Namen der babylonischen Amoraim voraus, während der Titel Rabbiner in der Regel den Namen der ordinierten Gelehrten in Palästina vorausgeht. Im Talmud ist Rav oder Rab ein allgemeiner Name für Abba Arika, die erste Amora, die die große Yeshiva in Sura gegründet hat, die mit der Mischna als Text zur Kompilierung des Talmud führte. In einigen chassidischen Gruppen wird der Rebbe auch als Rav bezeichnet; In anderen Kreisen unterscheidet sich der Rav vom Rebbe und ist der höchste Dayan der Gruppe. Der Begriff rav ist auch ein Oberbegriff für einen Lehrer oder einen persönlichen spirituellen Führer.
