Remand (Inhaftierung)
Die Verhaftung oder Inhaftierung eines Verdächtigen ist der Prozess der Beibehaltung einer Person, die in Haft genommen wurde, in der Regel in einem Untersuchungsgefängnis. Das Wort "remand" wird in allgemein üblichen Rechtsordnungen verwendet, um die Untersuchungshaft zu beschreiben, andere Rechtssysteme verwenden unterschiedliche Begriffe und Phrasen. Die Voruntersuchung unterscheidet sich grundsätzlich von der nachträgten Inhaftierung oder der Freiheitsstrafe. In vielen westlichen Demokratien wird die Freiheitsstrafe ohne Verurteilung als im Widerspruch zu der Vorstellung angesehen, dass ein Verdächtiger bis zur Nachwuchsschuld unschuldig ist, und aus diesem Grund ist die Untersuchungshaft in der Regel den Schutz- und Beschränkungen hinsichtlich ihrer zulässigen Dauer unterworfen. Wo die Gerichte nicht davon überzeugt werden können, dass ein Verdächtiger vor der Verhandlung in Haft genommen werden sollte - etwa im Interesse der "öffentlichen Sicherheit" - wird ein Verdächtiger bis zur Verhandlung freigelassen.
