Eine wiederholende oder wiederkehrende Dezimalzahl ist eine Möglichkeit, rationale Zahlen in der Arithmetik darzustellen. Die Dezimaldarstellung einer Zahl soll sich wiederholen, wenn sie periodisch wird und der unendlich wiederholte Teil nicht Null ist. Beispielsweise wird die Dezimaldarstellung von ⅓ unmittelbar nach dem Dezimalpunkt periodisch, wobei die einstellige Folge "3" für immer wiederholt wird, d.h. 0,333 .... Ein komplizierteres Beispiel ist 3227/555, dessen Dezimalzahl nach der zweiten Ziffer nach dem Dezimalpunkt periodisch wird und dann die Sequenz "144" für immer wiederholt, d.h. 5.8144144144 .... Gegenwärtig gibt es keine einzige allgemein akzeptierte Notation oder Phrasierung zur Wiederholung von Dezimalstellen. Die unendlich wiederholte Ziffernfolge heißt Repetend oder Reptend. Wenn die Wiederholung eine Null ist, wird die rationale Zahl als abschließende Dezimalzahl bezeichnet, da die Nullen weggelassen werden können und die Dezimalzahl vor diesen Nullen beendet wird. Alle abschließenden Dezimalstellen können als Dezimalfraktion geschrieben werden, deren Divisor eine Potenz von 10 ist; Sie können auch als Verhältnis der Form k / 2n5m geschrieben werden.

A repeating or recurring decimal is a way of representing rational numbers in arithmetic. The decimal representation of a number is said to be repeating if it becomes periodic and the infinitely-repeated portion is not zero. For example, the decimal representation of ⅓ becomes periodic just after the decimal point, repeating the single-digit sequence "3" forever, i.e. 0.333…. A more complicated example is 3227/555, whose decimal becomes periodic after the second digit following the decimal point and then repeats the sequence "144" forever, i.e. 5.8144144144…. At present, there is no single universally accepted notation or phrasing for repeating decimals. The infinitely-repeated digit sequence is called the repetend or reptend. If the repetend is a zero, the rational number is called a terminating decimal, since the zeros can be omitted and the decimal terminates before these zeros. All terminating decimals can be written as a decimal fraction whose divisor is a power of 10; they may also be written as a ratio of the form k/2n5m.
