Riesling
Riesling ist eine weiße Rebsorte, die im Rheingebiet entstand. Riesling ist eine aromatische Rebsorte mit blumigen, fast parfümierten Aromen sowie hoher Säure. Es wird verwendet, um trockene, halb-süße, süße und funkelnde Weißweine zu machen. Rieslingweine sind meist säuerlich rein und sind selten eichenig. Ab 2004 wurde Riesling als weltweit am weitesten gewachsene Sorte auf 48.700 Hektar geschätzt, aber in Bezug auf die Bedeutung von Qualitätsweinen ist es in der Regel in den "Top drei" Weißweinsorten zusammen mit Chardonnay und Sauvignon Blanc enthalten. Riesling ist eine Vielfalt, die sehr "terroir-expressiv" ist, was bedeutet, dass der Charakter der Rieslingweine eindeutig vom Herkunftsort des Weins beeinflusst wird. In kühlen Klimazonen neigen Rieslingweine dazu, Apfel- und Baumfruchtnoten mit spürbaren Säure zu zeigen, die manchmal mit Restzucker ausgeglichen wird. Eine spät reifende Sorte, die mehr Zitrus- und Pfirsichnoten in wärmeren Klimazonen entwickeln kann. In Australien wird Riesling oft für eine charakteristische Kalknote bemerkt, die in den Beispielen aus dem Clare und dem Eden Valley in Südaustralien auftaucht.
