Eukalyptus camaldulensis
Der rote Gummi ist ein Baum der Gattung Eukalyptus. Es ist einer von etwa 800 in der Gattung. Es ist eine Plantagenart in vielen Teilen der Welt, aber ist in Australien gebürtig, wo es weit verbreitet ist, vor allem neben Binnenwasserläufen. Seltsamerweise ist es für einen privaten Landgut in der Nähe des Klosters Camaldoli in der Nähe von Neapel benannt, von wo aus das erste Exemplar beschrieben wurde. Material von diesem Baum wurde von Frederick Dehnhardt, Chefgärtner an den Botanischen Gärten in Neapel verwendet, um diese Art im Jahre 1832 zu beschreiben. Es ist ein vertrauter und ikonischer Baum, der entlang vieler Wasserläufe überall im Inland Australien gesehen wird. Der Baum produziert einen willkommenen Schatten bei den extremen Temperaturen von Zentralaustralien und spielt eine wichtige Rolle bei der Stabilisierung der Flussufer.
