Rolamit
Rolamit ist eine Technologie für sehr reibungsarme Lager, die von Sandia National Laboratories in den 1960er Jahren entwickelt wurde. Erfunden von Sandia-Ingenieur Donald F. Wilkes und patentiert von ihm am 24. Juni 1969 diese Geräte verwenden ein gespanntes Metallband und Gegenrotationsrollen in einem Gehäuse, um eine Linearlager-Vorrichtung zu schaffen, die sehr wenig Energie an Reibung verliert. Eine Quelle behauptet, es sei die einzige grundlegende mechanische Erfindung des 20. Jahrhunderts. Tests von Sandia zeigten, dass Rolamit-Mechanismen Reibungskoeffizienten so niedrig wie 0,0005, eine Größenordnung besser als Kugellager zu der Zeit gezeigt.
