Seattle (ausgesprochen (hören) see-AT-əl oder) ist eine Küsten-Seehafenstadt und der Sitz von King County, im US-Bundesstaat Washington. Mit schätzungsweise 652.405 Einwohnern ab 2013 ist Seattle die größte Stadt im pazifischen Nordwestgebiet Nordamerikas und die am schnellsten wachsende Großstadt in den Vereinigten Staaten. Ein wichtiges Tor für den Handel mit Asien, Seattle ist der 8. größte Hafen in den Vereinigten Staaten und der 9. größte in Nordamerika in Bezug auf Container-Handling. Der Seattle-Bereich war von den Amerikanern für mindestens 4000 Jahre vor den ersten ständigen europäischen Siedlern bewohnt worden. Arthur A. Denny und seine Gruppe von Reisenden, die später als Denny Party bekannt sind, sind am 13. November 1851 auf Alki Point angekommen.
