Jean Sibelius (Aussprache (Hilfe · Info), geborener Johan Julius Christian Sibelius, 8. Dezember 1865 - 20. September 1957) war ein finnischer Komponist der spätromantischen Zeit. Seine musik spielte eine wichtige Rolle bei der Bildung der finnischen nationalen Identität. Der Kern des Sibelius-Oeuvres ist sein Satz von sieben Symphonien. Wie Beethoven benutzte Sibelius jede aufeinander folgende Arbeit, um seinen eigenen kompositorischen Stil weiterzuentwickeln. Seine Arbeiten werden in der Konzertsaal häufig durchgeführt und werden oft aufgezeichnet. Neben den Symphonien gehören Sibelius 'bekannteste Kompositionen zu Finnlandia, der Karelia Suite, Valse triste, dem Violinkonzert in d-Moll, Kullervo und dem Schwan von Tuonela (einer der vier Sätze der Lemminkäinen-Suite).
