Siphon
Der Siphon ist ein Strang des Gewebes, das in Längsrichtung durch die Schale einer Kopffüßchen-Molluske geht. Nur Kopffüßer mit Kammermuscheln haben Siphunken, wie die ausgestorbenen Ammoniten und Belemniten, und die lebendigen Nautilien, Tintenfisch und Spirula. Im Falle des Tintenfisches ist der Siphon unklar und verbindet alle kleinen Kammern der hochmodifizierten Schale des Tieres; In den anderen cephalopods ist es fadenartig und durchläuft kleine Öffnungen in den Wänden, die die Kammern teilen. Der Siphon wird hauptsächlich in der Entleerung von Wasser aus neuen Kammern verwendet, wenn die Schale wächst. Im wesentlichen, was passiert, ist das Kopffüßer erhöht die Salzigkeit des Blutes im Siphon, und das Wasser bewegt sich von der verdünnteren Kammer in das Blut durch Osmose. Gleichzeitig diffundiert Gas, meist Stickstoff, Sauerstoff und Kohlendioxid, aus dem Blut im Siphon in die Entleerungskammer. Beachten Sie, dass der Kopffüßer die Schale nicht aufpumpt. Das Gas, das sich in die Kammer bewegt, ist ein passiver Prozeß, stattdessen wird die Energie beim Absorbieren des Wassers aus der Kammer verwendet.
