Spectroheliograph
Der Spektroheliograph ist ein Instrument, das in der Astronomie verwendet wird und ein fotografisches Bild der Sonne bei einer einzigen Lichtwellenlänge ein monochromatisches Bild einfängt. Die Wellenlänge wird gewöhnlich so gewählt, daß sie mit einer spektralen Wellenlänge eines der in der Sonne vorhandenen chemischen Elemente übereinstimmt. Es wurde unabhängig von George Ellery Hale und Henri-Alexandre Deslandres im Jahre 1890 entwickelt und weiter verfeinert im Jahre 1932 von Robert R. McMath, um Bilder zu machen. Das Instrument besteht aus einem Prismen- oder Beugungsgitter und einem schmalen Schlitz, der eine einzige Wellenlänge durchläuft. Das Licht wird auf ein fotografisches Medium fokussiert, und der Schlitz wird über die Scheibe der Sonne bewegt, um ein vollständiges Bild zu bilden. Es ist nun möglich, einen Filter zu erzeugen, der ein schmales Band von Wellenlängen überträgt, das ein ähnliches Bild erzeugt, aber die Spektroheliographien bleiben im Gebrauch.
