Spermatocyte
Spermatocyten sind eine Art männlicher Gametozyten bei Tieren. Sie stammen aus unreifen Keimzellen namens Spermatogonie. Sie finden sich im Hoden, in einer Struktur, die als die Samenröhrchen bekannt ist. Es gibt zwei Arten von Spermatozyten, primäre und sekundäre Spermatozyten. Primäre und sekundäre Spermatozyten werden durch den Prozess der Spermatocytogenese gebildet. Primäre Spermatozyten sind diploide Zellen mit 46 Chromosomen. Nach der Meiose I entstehen zwei sekundäre Spermatozyten. Sekundäre Spermatozyten sind haploide Zellen, die 23 Chromosomen enthalten. Alle männlichen Tiere produzieren Spermatozyten, sogar Hermaphrodite wie C. elegans, die als männlich oder hermaphrodit existieren. Bei hermaphrodite C. elegans tritt zuerst die Spermienproduktion auf und wird dann in der Spermatheca gespeichert. Sobald die Eier gebildet sind, können sie sich selbst befruchten und bis zu 350 Nachkommen produzieren.
