Spermine
Spermin ist ein Polyamin, das an dem Zellstoffwechsel beteiligt ist, der in allen eukaryotischen Zellen gefunden wird. Geformt aus Spermidin, ist es in einer Vielzahl von Organismen und Geweben gefunden und ist ein wesentlicher Wachstumsfaktor in einigen Bakterien. Es wird als Polykation bei physiologischem pH gefunden. Spermin ist mit Nukleinsäuren assoziiert und soll die Helixstruktur, insbesondere bei Viren, stabilisieren. Kristalle von Spermienphosphat wurden erstmals 1678 im menschlichen Sperma von Anton van Leeuwenhoek beschrieben. Der Name spermin wurde erstmals 1888 von den deutschen Chemikern Ladenburg und Abel benutzt, und die korrekte Struktur des Spermals wurde erst 1926, gleichzeitig in England und Deutschland, endgültig festgestellt.
