Dieses Prinzip besagt, dass keine Bewegung ein Element über mehr als einen Begrenzungsknoten zu einem Zeitpunkt verschieben kann. In neueren Rahmenbedingungen sind Begrenzungsknoten, die Hürden für Bewegung sind, AgrP und DP. Daher beschränkt die Subjacency-Bedingung die Bewegung, indem sie Begrenzungsknoten definiert. Es erklärt auch die Tatsache, dass alle Bewegungen lokal sind.
