Burrhus Frederic Skinner war ein amerikanischer Psychologe, Behaviorist, Autor, Erfinder und Sozialphilosoph. Er war der Edgar Pierce Professor für Psychologie an der Harvard University von 1958 bis zu seinem Ruhestand im Jahr 1974. Skinner erfand die operante Konditionierungskammer, auch bekannt als die Skinner Box. Er war fest davon überzeugt, dass der menschliche freie Wille tatsächlich eine Illusion war und jede menschliche Handlung das Ergebnis der Konsequenzen desselben Handelns war. Wenn die Konsequenzen schlecht waren, gab es eine hohe Chance, dass die Aktion nicht wiederholt werden würde; Wenn jedoch die Konsequenzen gut waren, würden die Maßnahmen, die dazu geführt haben, verstärkt. Er nannte dies das Prinzip der Verstärkung. Er entwickelte seine eigene Philosophie der Wissenschaft, die radikalen Behaviorismus genannt wurde, und gründete seine eigene Schule der experimentellen Forschungspsychologie - die experimentelle Analyse des Verhaltens, die den Begriff operante Konditionierung prägte. Seine Analyse des menschlichen Verhaltens gipfelte in seinem Werk Verbal Behavior, sowie sein philosophisches Manifest Walden Two, die beide vor kurzem enorme Zunahme des Interesses experimentell und in angewandten Einstellungen gesehen haben.
