Die Kodontie
Die Kodontie, die heute als eine veraltete taxonomische Gruppierung betrachtet wurde, wurde früher verwendet, um eine vielfältige "Ordnung" der frühen archosaurischen Reptilien zu beschreiben, die zuerst in der letzten Perm-Periode erschien und bis zum Ende der Triaszeit blühte. Alle von ihnen wurden etwas wie Krokodile gebaut, aber mit kürzeren Schädeln, mehr aufgerichtete Pose und meist etwas leichter. Die Gruppe umfasst die Vorfahren von Dinosauriern, Pterosauriern und Krokodiliern sowie eine Anzahl ausgestorbener Formen, die keine Nachkommen hervorgebracht haben. Der Begriff "Thecodont" wird immer noch als anatomische Beschreibung der Zahnmorphologie, die in diesen Arten und anderen gesehen wird, verwendet.
