Das hochaufsteigende Terminal, auch bekannt als Uptalk, upspeak, steigende Beugung oder hochaufsteigende Intonation, ist ein Merkmal einiger Akzente von Englisch, wo angeblich deklarative Aussagen auf einer steigenden Note von Entschuldigung oder Untersuchung gesprochen werden. Empirisch schlägt ein Bericht vor, dass HRT in amerikanischem Englisch und australischem Englisch von einem hohen Ton ausgegeben wird, der an der endgültigen akzentuierten Silbe nahe dem Ende der Aussage beginnt und weiterhin die Frequenz bis zum Ende der intonischen Phrase erhöht. Neue Forschung deutet darauf hin, dass der tatsächliche Anstieg ein oder mehrere Silben nach der letzten akzentuierten Silbe der Phrase auftreten kann, und seine Reichweite ist viel variabler als bisher angenommen.
