Uraninit
Uraninit ist ein radioaktives, Uran-reiches Mineral und Erz mit einer chemischen Zusammensetzung, die weitgehend UO2 ist, aber aufgrund der Oxidation enthält das Mineral typischerweise variables U3O8. Zusätzlich zu dem Zerfall des Urans enthält es Oxide von Blei und Spuren von Helium. Es kann auch Thorium und Seltenerdelemente enthalten. Es ist am häufigsten als Pitchblende bekannt. Das Mineral ist seit dem 15. Jahrhundert aus Silberbergwerken im Erzgebirge, an der deutsch-tschechischen Grenze bekannt. Der Typ Lokalität ist die Stadt Jáchymov, auf der tschechischen Seite der Berge, wo F.E.Brückmann das Mineral im Jahre 1772 beschrieb. Pitchblende aus der Johanngeorgenstadt Ablagerung in Deutschland wurde von M. Klaproth im Jahre 1789 verwendet, um das Element Uran zu entdecken. Alle Uraninitmineralien enthalten eine geringe Menge an Radium als radioaktives Zerfallsprodukt von Uran. Uraninit enthält auch immer geringe Mengen der Blei-Isotope 206Pb und 207Pb, die Endprodukte der Zerfallsreihe der Uranisotope 238U bzw. 235U. Kleine Mengen an Helium sind auch in uraninit als Ergebnis des Alpha-Zerfalls vorhanden.
